The world of big brother…..in your living room!

It is eye-opening, you may think that you’re watching your TV but in fact, your TV maybe watching you. Can be called as a bugging device. Yep, you read that correctly. One of the things that people can do is to abuse the smart TV platform and hack the browser to gain access to the cameras that are built into some smart TV’s. With a little extra code, hackers, especially can turn the camera on in the browser invisibly and have the camera running behind the content that you’re looking at.

The scary thing about it, that it does not indicate that the cameras on, no LED’s, nothing so it could be watching you when you don’t even know. Smart TV’s are a playground for hackers because it’s a computer.
NEVER do online banking through your smart TV, it is possible that people can translate that do a different IP address, which they control. You are maybe thinking you’re entering the bank’s login when in fact your entering into someone else’s server.

Manufacturers are working on this but sadly it’s going to take a while, and if you ask me, it won’t be 100% secure
This means you can be in your living room and anyone, anywhere in the world could be watching you. Scary eh?

If you own a ‘smart TV’ from South Korean tech giant Samsung, every word you say can be captured by the device and beamed over the internet to Samsung and to any other companies with whom it chooses to share your data.

So what precautions can you take right now:
I’m not going to say disconnect your TV from the internet and turn it into a dumb TV; this would be a stupid thing to do as you’ve paid all that money to get the feature from a smart TV. My recommendation is straightforward; disable the microphone in your settings and get a piece of masking tape and put it over the camera. Some smart TV’s you can disable the camera altogether, don’t trust that as the person/hacker can reactivate them.
